Accuware ProActive Asset Manager provided to US Army.

Phase 2

Accuware incorporated has rolled out phase two of an extensive large scale deployment of Asset management software to a large facility at Ft. Huachuca IMCOM at Ft. Huachuca Arizona.

As the base for IT, and Instrumentation support and deployment there are millions of dollars of assets that need to be tracked.  The Army was interested in a solution that would manage the inventory of their assets as well as allow the scheduling of appointments for the assets.  Extremely detailed capability to sort data based on Categories, Nomenclatures, and manufacturers models was required.

Initially the use of an Access database was quickly becoming outgrown, and was hard to maintain. Data integrity, and usability was difficult, and the system  needed  to be much more scalable.

Accuware proposed its browser based  “intranet” intranet solution that uses a SQL server back end database.  The broad acceptance of MicroSoft SQL server as a database makes Accuware’s structure  appealing to many IT departments. Since all users are using a browser with no client side installation required the system is easy to maintain and upgrade.  The browser approach also makes the mobile user screens hardware independent.  Any mobile device that has a browser can use the mobile screens.

In May of 2009 Accuware was then contracted to expand the system to include enhanced functionality in a number of areas. Most importantly in the Barcode printing , and Mobile computer areas.  The Army will deploy Symbol/Motorola MC9090 portables to handle rugged tasks in the field as well as the warehouse.  The management of critical assets in the filed will require users to audit the assets that they have in their possession to ensure that they have collected all returning Assets properly. Users will be able to scan a group of assets and compare it to the list that has be checked out to them.  This will improve the accuracy to the return of assets and improve how timely assets can be shared.

Warehouse users will be able to receive assets, and print labels for assets that arrive into the system.   Zebra Portable P4T printers were selected as the label printer of choice as it is the only thermal transfer portable printer available on the market. Asset identification needs to be labeled with thermal transfer technology, because direct thermal labels are prone to fading, and are sensitive to heat.  The Zebra P4t printers will be cabled to the MC9090 scanners for mobile label printing.  The Army has also requested several other improvements to the system to enhance its user functionality as many of the key tables contain a large amount of data fields.  View Asset screen will be capable of filtering both Columns and rows to allow concise printing of inventory selections.  Scalability of the management of assets for creation of Asset appointments was also greatly improved.
