Long Delay until
First Label emerges
Waiting for the Label!
Possible Suspects
If you are
connected to a Database or are using lots of True type
fonts pick these tops at left.
I
Is your Label
printer more than 5 years old? It may have a processor in
it that once only needed to support only DOS
applications with no fancy fonts or rich graphic
capabilities. Many of these printers had an UPGRADE to
256K of RAM. If you need performance you may need a new
printer. This being said there are other things to look
at.
Serial
connections
If your printer
has a Centronics Parallel port use it instead of your 9600
baud serial port. You could see a ten fold difference in
"first Label out" time. If your printer
only has a serial port and you just bought it from the
people at "www.SomeBarcodeWebStoreYouveNeverHeardOf.com".
(Call us) Chances are you are here because you have no
budget for a new printer and plenty of time to read
research. (see my link to True Type fonts warnings)
Serial communications should be increased to the Maximum baud
rate on the printer and on your COM port. If you are
forced to use a serial port, stay away from True Type
Fonts and
graphics if you want performance. If you need them then go
get a cup of coffee and come back.
Incrementing
Numbers
Note: If you are
using incrementing numbers and are experiencing
delays see this topic at left.
