Software issues
The product is piling up at
the dock and we need labels. I never thought my label printer was
important! Ok ..lets get you running. If you are using Label design
and printing software then you are half way out of the woods. If the data
light on your Zebra print will not flash when you print then you still
might have a communications issue so simplify the problem by using a
parallel cable for now to get running and get that product labeled!
Label design and printing
software
If you have Labelview, Label
Matrix, Loftware, Easy Label, Bartender, Codesoftware, NiceLabel then you
are a step ahead. Don't use the printer driver that shipped with your
Zebra printer. Use the drivers that are available from the label software
that you are using. If your Label software is 10 years old and your
printer driver is 10 months old, then upgrade your label software. (If you
really understand Zebra printers then you know that you can use the older
printer model drivers to get by for a while and this will work) Don't have
6 different printer drivers for the same Zebra printer model on your pc at
the same time. This can cause conflicts on both new and old operating
systems. If you don't have label printing software from one of these major
players running your mission-critical labels, then we highly suggest you
look into it. (see our compare brands page)
Operating Systems
Once again another topic that
could be a website all by itself. If you are running Windows 95 or
Windows 98 (first edition) there is a real good chance that you cannot
print because you need to upgrade. Tech support calls that come in with
Windows 95 and an LP2844 printer don't really build a good case for
showing that a real effort is in place to actually get labels done. I will
simply list reasons why operating systems are an issue:
-
Tech support for really old
Labeling software is not provided as a matter of policy
-
Old operating systems are not
supporting the "system requirements" of your software.
-
Old operating systems are
susceptible to computer virus's.
-
Old operating systems mean old
computers which means support techs have a lot of possible suspects to
investigate.
-
Old operating systems cannot
support new printer drivers.
-
Old operating systems may not
run a new printer.
-
Old operating systems mean
that the IT resources being dedicated to labeling are lacking and
therefore broadcast a message of "management doesn't care if we can
print labels" to any supplier trying to get your system running.
